Creative Jumpstart 2013!

CJSLogo_500

Here we go again!  I'm so excited about this!  You'll have to watch the video to see why I am especially excited about this year's Creative Jumpstart!

After last year's success of Creative JumpStart, Nathalie Kalbach decided to organize it again. About 4.500 subscribers joined the Creative JumpStart in 2012--including myself! It was so much fun! So here is the scoop about it:

January is approaching--a month that is full with promises, resolutions and intentions. A month that for many is following lots of holiday celebrations, family gatherings and other end-of-the-year events.

It’s also time to start creating again. But suddenly there it is for some of us: that lost feeling on how to start. Here is the cure :)

Nathalie invited a group of wonderful, inspiring and creative ladies and gentlemen from around the globe in the mixed media and scrapbooking world to join together for the Creative Jump Start Summit 2013. We are coming together to show you some ways to get back into the creative groove and how to get your creative juices flowing.

We want to share with you "3 Ways to ..." help you jump-start your creativity in 2013!

Let me show you who is participating:

A Passion for Playing with Tattered Angels Products...

Art Inspired Studios in Brentwood had their two year anniversary crop last weekend, and they asked if I would do a Tattered Angels Make & Take for them---of course, I said yes!  So I spent the day sharing the Tattered Angels love with the talented ladies at Art Inspired!  I wish I had taken pictures of their projects.  I love how we can all use the same products but come out with different beautiful results!

We went from this familiar composition book….

    to these altered composition books:

all were done with the help of a little gel medium, some tissue, a few flowers, a little gesso, and then LOTS of Tattered Angels Plain Jane products for all of the coloring:  Dark Turquoise and Red Stained Glass, Ivory and Clay Baseboard, Taupe and Aqua Simply Sheer Mists, plus various colors of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze,  and of course, one of my favorites, Chandelier Glam!

    A few close-ups of these two projects…

For this one, I bunched up my ephemera, Anna Dabrowska style...

And here’s the very first one I did last year when the Tattered Angels Plain Jane products first came out, using the same technique but incorporating Bo Bunny pattern paper from their Timepiece line.

Fun stuff! I just love playing with all the Tattered Angels products!
I’ll be teaching some of these projects at Scrapbook Island very soon!

    Altered Egg

I was playing and made this little egg last week.  I figured I’d better get this posted since tomorrow is Easter!

I made the egg by covering those little plastic easter eggs with fabric, glue and miscellaneous embellishments

I recently took a great class from Melissa Frances at Scrapbook Island, and I had one of the Melissa Frances’ nests and her paper tissue (not sure what it’s actually called) so I thought the egg would look nice sitting in the nest.

The inside of the egg is decorated with Tim Holtz’s tissue tape and is ready to fill with candies.  I would have taken a picture of the inside of the egg for you, but my camera battery was flashing “no battery” so I was lucky to get these two pictures up and loaded.

So what do you think?  I love them – I think I’ll make more for next year!

Now back to painting for me!  See that table the egg is sitting on?  I painted and distressed it, and added a French decal to it – and it’s headed to the Paris Flea Market next weekend!

Hope you have a nice Easter!

    Flea market finds...

It’s been a few months, but let’s try this blog thing again.  Today, I’ll show you a few of my recent finds from an antique yard sale and the Alameda Antique Fair.

The Alameda Antique Fair is always fun, but this month particularly funny because I ended up hitching a ride from a stranger (kids—don’t do this!) to haul my stuff to the car.  Thanks “Jennifer” from Alameda!  I spotted Jennifer and her big yellow cart when I was resting in row “V” and dreading the fact that I had to get to row “A” just to get out of the flea market and then on to row “J” to get to the car….and I was carrying a big wooden box, filled with four sewing boxes and four heavy metal brackets that went along with them. So as she passed me, I asked how much it was to rent one of those carts.  She replied that they are free, but that I could hitch a ride with her if I wanted!  Sweet!  I helped her out too by waiting with the large, beautiful piece she got for her daughter’s room, while she went to get her car.  And then she even gave me a lift to my car too!  I guess we took a while because when I got to the car, Joey was already there (he was carrying an even heavier box of mine filled with large bottles) so he was quite surprised to see that I had gotten a ride from a stranger!  It was pretty funny!

Here's the stuff from the Alameda Antique Fair.  The green drop leaf table that it's all sitting on is from last month's antique fair.

And now some close-ups.  I really liked this camera.  Probably because it's small, the bellow slides back and forth, and most importantly it was cheap.  I'm thinking i will try to replicate it!

I love ornate frames -- the bigger the better...just gonna add white paint, or maybe Duck Egg Blue -- not sure yet.

I love boxes --- this one's an old double sided microscope box.

I also love large bottles almost as much as I love boxes.  And I wasn't in love with this box, but I love the way it nicely held the five large bottles!

Love, love, love sewing BOXES.  See the metal frame at the bottom of the box?

I just need to attach that metal piece to something and the boxes will slide out.

The bed stool, large frame and old wooden stool are from an antique yard sale I happened upon last Friday. I just love the curves on the bed stool!

That's it for now.  I’ve been cleaning out my crafting stash.  So next time, I’ll post about a few things that I’ve been stashing away for way too long and it was time to either create something or toss it!
